Victorian Mourning Ring

£3,700.00

c. 1870 England

Set with a hand-cut diamond in a bespoke bezel shaped to the irregular stone, flanked by turquoise cabochons within black enamel shoulders. The engraved band is pierced to reveal a compartment that would originally have contained woven hair of the mourned; the hair has since been removed, leaving the interior empty. The ring bears no inscription. A distinctive configuration within Victorian mourning jewellery.
